My first experience with Echo Mountain was last October. After arriving at the mansion ruins we were surprised when suddenly the moon rose over the San Gabriels looking especially close. The sun was about to set so we stayed to watch. It was definitely an awesome view of the city at night.

And there it is. Totally worth the wait… and having to hike down the mountain via cell phone light. Echo Mountain is a great place to watch the sunset. Just bring a flashlight. As an added bonus; watching the city lights flicker at night from this vantage point is pretty incredible.
